Beautiful, natural looking teeth are easily attainable in Drury Lane Dental Care

Cracking, root canals, lost fillings and other trauma can permanently damage a tooth’s structure. When the surface of the tooth is a problem but the root is healthy, covering the tooth with a dental crown may be the answer. Dental crowns cover the entire tooth and are excellent alternatives to veneers and dentures. Natural-looking and esthetically pleasing, dental crowns are excellent for replacing individual missing teeth or severely injured teeth while at the same time adding strength and stability to the teeth. Contact Drury Lane dental Care today for more information on how dental crowns can improve your smile!

Genetics, everyday activities, accidents, and injuries can negatively impact teeth, especially the front teeth. Coffee, tea, red wine, and cigarette smoke can yellow teeth. Teeth affected by trauma, tetracycline, or root canal can turn gray. Fillings in the front teeth may appear discoloured. Accident or injury can cause teeth to chip.

Porcelain veneers dramatically improves the tooth’s size, colour, and shape. The procedure involves bonding an extremely thin yet incredibly strong ceramic porcelain shell to the tooth; it is ideal for improving front teeth. Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining and when the procedure is properly performed, the result is long lasting and extremely natural looking.

We at Drury Lane Dental Care understand the importance of crafting and bonding porcelain veneers. Poorly crafted or bonded porcelain veneers can result in teeth that appear “thick,” blocky looking, and completely unnatural. Porcelain veneers that are properly designed and bonded result in a beautiful smile that others will think you were born with.

Because porcelain veneers are customized for each patient. The colour, shape, and size of the porcelain veneer must be carefully planned if the result is to be a natural looking and esthetically pleasing smile. It is important that the cosmetic dentist fully understand the patient’s desired results and that the patient fully understand the corrective limitations of the porcelain veneers, if any.

Even though the porcelain veneer is incredibly thin, it adds a slight amount of thickness to the tooth to be treated. Because of this, a small amount of enamel on the surface of the tooth is lightly buffed away to make room for the slight thickness the porcelain veneer will add (typically, only about a half millimetre of enamel is removed, and the process may or may not require local anaesthesia). Then a mould of the teeth is taken and used to craft the porcelain veneers. If the buffed tooth is noticeable, a temporary veneer can be placed on it until the permanent veneer is made.

The permanent veneer is placed on the patient’s tooth with water or glycerin to check the fit, shape, and colour and to see how the veneer looks with the rest of the teeth. At this stage, adjusting the cement tint can perfect the colour of the porcelain veneer. Once both the dentist and patient are pleased with the porcelain veneer, it is cemented into place using a visible beam to harden the cement. Most patients adjust to their porcelain veneer in about a week.
